DAUGHTER'S FIRST TURKEY
It's early spring 2007 and the youth only turkey weekend is coming up fast. Raley, my oldest daughter has just turned 11 years old and is very excited to go on her first turkey hunt. As the weekend nears we are getting ours plans together with our good friend Jim Rush and his son Briar. Jim and Briar have a cabin in Tompkinsville, Ky. DAUGHTER'S FIRST DEER
For the last couple of years my daughter, Raley Slone, has wanted to kill a deer. She has taken several rabbits, squirrels and some quail. It was now time for her to move to the bigger game. Our first obstacle was to getting her to shoot a bigger caliber gun. We were battling a stint of her being gun shy. So to get her a gun that would do the job and not scare her away, we got a 30 carbine riffle. It needs to be powerful enough to do the job but not to powerful to scare her off.
