Find a Youth Bow in 3 Simple Steps.

Which bow is for your child?

With all of the options out there today for youths and adults there is a bow for everyone. When trying to find a bow for youths there are three simple steps to getting you on your way. For that matter these are the exact steps you need to follow for anyone wanting to get into the archery seen.

1. First we start with your draw length. Your draw is usually close to the same length as the arrows you will need to shoot. One way to get a start on finding your draw length is to stand with your back to the wall, hold your arms out with palms facing out and measure from tip to tip on your middle fingers. You take that amount in inches and divide it by 2.5 and that should be very close to your draw length. Also, if available, you can go to your local archery store and they will have a bow set up to measure draw lengths. Draw length is very important in your shooting accuracy. If you are still not sure or you're going to use a string loop always go a little less on the draw length. If your draw length is to long it will result in poor shooting form, inaccuracy and painful string slaps on your forearm.

2. Draw weight is your second thing to consider in purchasing your bow. You need to choose a draw weight that is going to be comfortable. If it is too hard to draw back you will, or in this case the youth will be reluctant to practice. Remember, the draw weight will be adjustable by about 10 to 15 lbs. Make sure you start them at the lower portion of the limb capacity. So if they can pull back a max weight 40 lbs. then you need to make sure the bow is set at its lowest weight, which should be about 37 to 40 lbs. The reason you do this is because it won't take long for their muscles to get into shape and you will be able to gradually increase the weight. So make sure you get a bow that will allow them to grow into it instead of out growing it to quick.

3. What kind of bow to purchase is the next question? Find a bow that's not too heavy or bulky. There are so many different types of bows and brands of bows to choose from just make sure you get what you are looking for. Also make sure the bow fits the type of game they intend on pursuing. Some states have restrictions with a minimum draw weight required to hunt big game. Check your state regulation to be in compliance with the law.
